The Lebanon Rugby League (LRL) has officially kicked off its highly anticipated 2025 season, marking a triumphant return after last year’s adjournment due to regional conflict. The opening match saw Immortals claim a hard-fought 28-12 victory over Lycans, setting the tone for a season of fierce competition among Lebanon’s top clubs—Lycans FC, Immortals RLFC, and Wolves RLFC. The league’s resurgence highlights the sport’s role in uniting communities and preparing for international competitions later this summer.
CEO Nayef Abi Said captured the significance of this moment:
"It's heartening to see Lebanon Rugby League restart with renewed energy. This marks our second championship this year, and we anticipate strong competition ahead. The fact that games are being played while ballistic missiles and drones fill the skies is a powerful reminder of the resilience of our players and the unifying spirit of sport. Despite the turmoil around us, we remain hopeful that we will complete the season and crown a champion on the field."
Team Managers Reflect on the Season’s Resurgence
Khalil (Lycans FC) praised his team’s spirit despite the narrow 12-28 loss:
"The return of the LRL has been marked by eagerness to play, especially after last season’s pause. Though we fell short against Immortals, the effort was solid. With new players from Jamhour and Tripoli, we’re building cohesion and refining strategy ahead of our next match against Wolves."
Robin (Immortals RLFC) celebrated the team’s gritty opening win:
*"Many players left due to the situation, but the hunger to win remains. Our 28-12 result against Lycans came down to solid defense and going back to basics. We cleaned up errors in the second half and finished strong."* On their next challenge: "Against Wolves, we’ll stick to the plan despite missing key players."
Johnny Fawaz (Wolves RLFC) framed the season as a symbol of hope:
"This isn’t just rugby—it’s about resilience and unity. Every match proves we’re still standing. Against Immortals, we’ll set the pace early and prove Wolves are title contenders."
Looking Ahead
The Wolves and Immortals will face off in Week 2 on Thursday at 9:pm, while Lycans regroup for their clash with Wolves.
